Why does this happen?

Troubleshooting your film and video transfer.

Home Movie Depot is proud to offer the truest film to video transfer possible. We take great precaution to ensure that the film or video is not changed or damaged during the transfer process. We remove all of the particles from the OUTSIDE of the film and video; however, any imperfections captured during the initial filming, and thus INSIDE the film and video, will remain in your final DVD.

Dust/Hair in my film or video

Many old cameras were great magnets for dust. When dust got into the camera, the 8mm film, super8 film, or 16mm film would capture the image of the dust particle. Think of it like having your thumb in front of the camera lens when you take a still picture. The picture that develops will have the image of your thumb in it as well.

Light/ Dark spots in my film and video

The quality starts at the source. While we can do some minimal brightness correction, there are some brightness issues related to the original light conditions and exposure that we can not correct. We adjust the light so that you have the best possible image, given the original shadows and light captured in the picture.

Jumping

Our film projector uses sprockets to pull your film through the transfer. If you film is missing some perforations (those little sprocket holes on the side of your film) the picture may jump. While we would like to be able to repair every damaged perforation, it would be very costly to do! As a rule of thumb, we try to repair any section of film damage that lasts for more than 5 seconds to ensure that you film and video transfers will come out as true as possible.
