What is that sound?

Transferring sound with your film and video orders.

If your super8 film, 16mm film, and video tapes contain either magnetic or optical sound, Home Movie Depot can convert that film or video to DVD. Home Movie Depot can transfer magnetic sound on super 8 film, 16mm film, or video tape. Optical sound recordings on 16mm film are also compatible with Home Movie Depot’s film transfer system. Optical and magnetic sound transfers are the same price as silent transfers. Two track sound transfers are available upon special request.

While home movies have been around since the early part of the 20th century, film and videos often get the reputation of being silent. However, many types of film and video do contain sound. Professional film makers began using 16mm sound-on-film long before the average home movie enthusiast had affordable access to this media. Finally, sound-on-film became commercially mainstream during the 1970's, when Kodak released super 8 film with sound in 1973. A few years later, video cameras and tapes which took over for super8 film and cameras, leaving the public with a cheaper and more compact way to capture both audio and visual memories.
