35mm Slides, 35mm Negatives, and Photos

How to Pack your slide, negative, and photo order

In order to ensure that your 35 mm slide, 35 mm negative, and photo scanning order is safe and secure during shipping and the digitization process, we have included the following guidelines. You can also order a ship kit with your order and we will provide the necessary materials for packing and shipping your order. We are more than happy to accept 35mm slides, 35mm negatives, photos, as well as many video tape and film reel formats in the same order.

How to pack

Loose Slides

If your slides are not already in a numbered container, please follow these directions:

  1. Number your 35mm slides
film to dvd Your slide number will be your six digit order number, followed by the chronological number in your slide collection. For example, if your order number is 123456, the first slide in you collection should be numbered 123456-1. The second slide should be numbered 123456-2. As the graphic shows, place the slide number on the front, upper right hand corner of the cardboard slide mount. (Regretfully, we can not accept slides encased in metal holders at this time.)

  2. Group your 35mm slides
Stack the 35mm slides in groups of 10. Secure the stack of 35mm slides with a rubber band.

Printed Photos

If you're sending us photos to be scanned, please follow these directions. Please note that photos, slides, and negatives can not be combined into the same barcoded container and need a separate bag.

  1. Group your Photos
If you would like your digitized photos divided into separate chapters on your dvd, just group the photos into the categories that you want to work with. We ask that you put no fewer than 20 and no more than 140 photos into the same group.

  2. Bag your photos
Place the groups of photos in separate plastic ziplock bags. These bags will protect the photos from moisture damage during shipping as well as tell us how to divide your chapters. If your photos are too big to fit in a ziplock bag, we provide some larger bags in our shipping kit.

  3. Package your bagged photos
We highly recommend that you pack your photos so that they cannot shift or bend during shipping.

Securing the barcoded ziplock bags in or against something that will keep them flat and placing that item into a slightly larger box with ample padding should be sufficient to protect your photos. For instance, placing your bagged photos in a folder or a stiff cardboard document envelope from a Fedex, UPS, or the Post Office and securing it in a box padded with crumpled newspaper or packing peanuts will keep your photos flat, dry, and well protected during shipping.

  4. Ship your photos
    Send your photos to:

    Home Movie Depot
    9900 Westpoint Drive
    Suite 138
    Indianapolis, IN 46256
