Frame by frame transfer is available for 8mm film, silent super8, and all 16mm film.

Frame by frame transfer is the most ideal transfer if you would like to make stills from your footage. We highly recommend having your home movies transferred to a hard drive so that you can capture stills from the images.

Our Memories3 software watches your film and pays attention to color, brightness, and content- absorbing the specifics of your footage. Then, Memories3 chooses the best spots to insert frames to complete the video feed. Thus, the frames that Memories3 Frame by Frame software chooses are tailor-made for your specific film reel, resulting in a crisp and clear picture.

Home Movie Depot uses our unique, proprietary projectors to transfer the film. The projectors have been modified with a PLL circuit which locks the shutter speed to the video phase. Then, we can run the projector at 20 frames per second. With a three bladed shutter, this becomes 60 fields per second. We then extract the original frame from the 60 field-per-second video signal and duplicate it, so that the final NTSC DV signal is a stream of progressive pictures of film.

We modified Kino to all this in real-time while capturing, along with other processing such as gamma adjustment. The resulting transfer is ultimately a 2:2 pulldown transfer, resulting in a picture that retains the most film-like aesthetics.
